Announcements

WSWarmington School is a small school with a big heart set in the delightful Northamptonshire village of Warmington, in the north-east of the county, between the beautiful market town of Oundle and the A1(M).  We have five classes: Robins are our pre-school children who attend from 3 years and we make sure that they have lots of opportunities to work alongside the Hedgehogs to make moving up into the main school a happy and exciting time for them. Our Hedgehogs are 4 and 5 year olds, Foxes is for 5 to 7 year olds, Badgers for 7 to 9 year olds and Red Kites for 9 to 11 year olds.

Our School day begins at 8.50am. The children are registered before starting a morning of Numeracy and Literacy lessons. The whole school have morning break from 10.15-10.30am to separate the core lessons. Lunchtime begins at 12pm with afternoon registration at 1pm which signals the beginning of lessons in the wider curriculum: Science, Art, PE, RE, Computing, PSHE, History/Geography topics and Creative Mission. The pupils gather for a whole school assembly at 2.55pm and the school day ends at 3.15pm.

Life inside the school is busy and engaging for the children and outside they can let off steam and learn team skills on a super pirate ship, a playhouse, tyre park, climbing wall and trim trails, as well as a playing field for sport and games. We also have an allotment where we grow vegetables and a wildlife area where we often see blue tits, chaffinches and blackbirds - and sometimes a green woodpecker comes to visit us, too!

What's special about our school - what do we do?

Ofsted in 2018 said that 'parents and carers are overwhelmingly positive about the school. They said their children are happy, well cared for and make good progress.' The report also said that 'pupils are exceptionally well-behaved. They are kind and polite to one another and play happily together.; We are all very proud of our pupils and our wonderful staff.

We make sure that everyone has a full and rounded educational experience with us - Hedgehogs, Foxes, Badgers and Red Kites have weekly French Lessons. Our teacher Mme Kernick lets us taste French food. In the Summer we go swimming at Oundle Pool. We have a specialist PE teacher, Ms Ransom, who works with all the classes. At Warmington you can learn a musical instrument, usually violin, guitar or cornet.

We also play a lot of sport. Warmington School is a member of the Oundle and Thrapston Sports Partnership and we regularly take part in cross country, basketball, football, tag rugby, cricket and athletics events. We also take part in tennis organised by Oundle Tennis Club and cricket organised by Oundle Cricket Club. We have been awarded the Gold Mark for the quality of our Sports provision which is a wonderful achievement for our school.

We have a very active Parents and Friends Association which organises many events for children, parents and friends. The big events each year are the Christmas Fair and Disco and the Summer Fair, where the children traditionally participate in Maypole Dancing.

We are part of a Unity with Titchmarsh Church of England Primary School and share lots of exciting events together including our activity weeks and residentials to the Frontier Centre, York and Govilon.

We hope you will take a few minutes to browse our website to find out more about our lovely school. Please make sure that you read our excellent Ofsted report from January 2018 where we were again judged as being a 'good' school. We are committed to ensuring that our school continues to flourish and develop, giving each and every pupil the chance to get the very most from their time with us so they are prepared for a happy, confident and successful life!

If you do need any further help or information, do not hesitate to get in touch - the 'Contact Us' page has all the details you will need! The best way, though, to find out about us is to come and see us at work. Contact us to make an appointment - we look forward to welcoming you to our fantastic school!

ONLINE SAFETY

Have you heard about an online character called Huggy Wuggy from a game and TV show called Poppy Playtime? The animated character goes by the friendly name of Huggy Wuggy, leading parents and children to believe the videos are aimed at youngsters and contain no inappropriate material. However, the blue bear-like creature with sharp teeth chases and threatens other characters in nightmarish scenarios, leaving many children upset and frightened.  The character is from the cast of Poppy Playtime which is described as a ‘survival horror, logical puzzle video game’. Huggy Wuggy is the villain within the game.

The game involves staying alive in a horror puzzle adventure. This game is not suitable for primary aged children as it contains some frightening and disturbing content that is very upsetting to view. The Poppy Playtime game is available on the App Store and Android store and has a PEGI 12 rating, meaning it is only suitable for people over 12. To put this into context Minecraft has a rating of PEGI 10 meaning it is only suitable for people over 10.  Toys representing the characters from Poppy Playtime are sold on Amazon. The Huggy Wuggy character has also been recreated on Roblox, a virtual community where users can create their own 3D worlds with their own game players.

Please see our newsletter section for a range of factsheets and advice regarding online safety for your children.

Not sure what to read next with your child? Check out the Recommended Reads for each class! Lots of ideas to excite and inspire young readers and to get a ticket for the Reading Raffle!

You can find the information under 'Classes' and the lists are in each class section. Enjoy!!

#HelloYellow Day At Warmington

On Thursday 13th October, Warmington School will be taking part in #HelloYellow, to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and wellbeing for young people.

The #HelloYellow event is an event, which raises vital funds for children's mental health in support of World Mental Health Day. Children's mental health charity, "Young Minds" who organise this event, provide phenomenal support to young people, to both raise the profile of mental health, provide a support network and phone line and also assist schools and education centres by providing valuable resources to use.

All children are invited to wear, “yellow themed” non-uniform, to school on this day. We do not want parents to have to go and buy new yellow clothing, so it could be as simple as a yellow pair of socks or a hat etc.

We also ask parents and carers to consider, if possible, donating to Youngminds at www.youngminds.org.uk

As a school and wider community, we would like to ensure that our pupils know that their mental health matters and that they deserve to feel supported and are confident to talk about their own feelings. We will also be including some fun activities throughout the week that we hope the children will enjoy and an assembly created by Youngminds specifically for Primary Schools.

We are confident that taking part in #HelloYellow will show our pupils that their mental health is important, and to ask for help when they need support.

This Term's Value:

We have launched our 'Values Assemblies' this term and this term's theme will be 'Independence' - there will be assemblies and rewards each week!!

Safeguarding Update - there is a flyer on our 'Safeguarding Page' for a webinar for parents on County Lines and Child Criminal Exploitation - please see the flyer for more details.

When Red Kites Met Professor Robert Winston

The Oundle, Peterborough and East Northants (OPEN) Learning Partnership was delighted to host a Q & A this week with renowned scientist, and member of the House of Lords, Professor Robert Winston. Lord Winston is known for his pioneering work in the study of fertility and has become a leading voice for science through presenting TV shows including The Human Body, Child of Our Time and Walking with Cavemen.

Over 1000 primary and secondary students took part, including schools from the Ogden Trust Science Partnership and the 8 schools comprising the OPEN Learning Partnership. Children asked questions which covered topics as diverse as genetics, life in outer space, the workings of the brain and even what causes hiccups! Professor Winston also shared some fascinating videos of a white blood cell chasing down a bacterium, the vocal cords vibrating during singing and the inside of the intestines captured by a tiny camera in a pill!

We are tremendously grateful to both Professor Winston for sharing his expertise with us and to all the students and teachers who took part.

Thank you to Mrs Campo for organising this amazing opportunity for us all!
